THE VIENA CARDIGAN,
The Vienna is a cardigan zero waste (well, minimum waste), easy to make and it’ll become your favorite basic, at least that happened to me :)
THE INSPIRATION
The inspiration for this cardigan comes from the city of art, from a painting I saw at the MUMOK museum in Vienna and it has been hanging around my head for months, I took the idea and transformed it into a cardigan. As you can see in the pic, it could be made without sleeves for the summer time, I will certainly try it in a few months :)
THE MATERIALS
For this cardigan you’ll need between 1 to 1.5 meters of knitted fabric of 1.5 meters wide.
Use a fabric with some interesting texture or color and take into account that the back side of the fabric will also be visible in the final piece.
For the first version I made (the red one) I used a thin fabric and only 1 meter. For the second version (the gray one) I decided to try a slightly thicker material and I used 1.2 meters. Love them both.
THE PATTERN
I did’t make any pattern for this cardigan, it is so simple that it is enough to mark it directly on the fabric using our own measurements.
Shoulder width
Armhole deep
Sleeved length
Cuff circumference
Do you want to make it?
I have prepared a step by step guide of the process.
